How to furnish your home on a budget?

1. Must be observant of your surrounding especially when you are nearing the dumpster.

2. Must be thick skinned. Once you chanced upon that rare fine, unless you have a car its public transport. Which is for my case, the mrt lugging that cumbersome coffee table…

3. Must love to get your hands dirty. B and me, thank god love to do things with our hands. From refurnishing the chairs to painting the house, it gives an incredible sense of accomplishment and more importantly it saves plenty of moolah!

4. Lastly, to hell with what people say about your uncoordinated look of your house. Like what Eddie Murphy says,”Its my house and if you don’t like it, get the fuck out!”

We were excited when the furniture finally came in. Initially, we were worried that the sheer number of furniture we have been accumulating along the years may cause the place to feel claustrophobic.  Many of the pieces in the above picture (coffee table, armchair & yellow dining chair) were vintage store finds. Bought in less desirable state, we got them refurbished and re-upholstered. Love that these finds give the house a touch of warmth and personality.

The beautiful glass cabinet was a bargain that came in near perfect condition. It currently holds ceramic works of Iskandar Jalil.

None of the artwork have been put up on the walls as we have yet to decide on the location.

Post-cement screed floor.

Walls have been painted and the chalk board wall is sorted. All were pains takingly done by B and me over 2 back-breaking weekends. Things moved pretty quickly as we were quite on top of things, calling the foreman and the various people coordinating so that there’s progress every week, or everyother day.

24th Nov. Our floors were completed. The staff from Supreme. Kelvin, was the gold standards doing it double quick time. All done in 1 day, in fact from 9.30am to 5pm, to be exact. The next day, the 1st piece of art work by Conor Harrington and my study table came in. The house is looking like a home with every passing day.

6th Dec. The bed, glass cabinet, Muji sofa and 2 gorgeous chairs will be here. The Eames RAR rocker and the Prouve Standard chair will be in.

Virgin floor

Raw, rough and gritty. That is the state of our floors presently. Not for very long though. Soon, the floors will be heighten, smoothed and leveled. Just last week we got the contractors to work its magic and the result…

The view of 6th Avenue

We just received our long awaited flat at Holland Village and the wait is definitely worth the while. Sprawling greenery, unobstructed view and in the middle of everywhere we need to be(work and parents). The finish is excellent, wires concealed and the toilet all good to go. However, we are putting some work into it. Flooring, kitchen, redo the toilet and add in our magic to it. Check out for updates!
